Procedures For General And Cosmetic Dentistry

By Dominique Martin

It is commonly known that dentists are associated with tooth extraction, cleaning, filling, and getting braces and retainers from. Although the practice and study has evolved since then and many other services and procedures are being made to either give better aesthetics or functionality for your overall oral cavity. This would make it more convenient for people who have various problems with their teeth, gums, or mouth.

These are becoming more varied and there is a lot to choose depending on the needs of the individual. Cosmetic dentistry Andover patients would benefit with these methods that would enhance or repair their oral cavity. Whichever it may be from teeth whitening, reshaping, filling, bridges, or veneers.

But this dentistry is actually not a focused or official study recognized by the American Dental Association. Many dentists have already claimed to be cosmetic dentists but this is deemed very unethical and the main objective is purely marketing on their patients. So far, two specialties are for this field which are Prosthodontics and also Orthodontics.

In Prosthodontics, it is a focus for providing prosthesis to patients who have missing or deficient set of teeth. This would be able to help the patients who are suffering congenital defects. The defects would either be because of surgery, trauma, cancer, or any various defects since birth.

For Orthodontics, it is also called Dentofacial Orthopedics. This is the primary focus for dentists and actually the first type of practice. Although these specialists have a limit and would only focus on Orthodontia and may not be able to do other practices like for general dentistry. They work on improper bites or malocclusions caused by irregularities of their teeth or jaw. It is basically for working on displacement, control, and modification of cranial growth.

These procedures have their value solely on cosmetic or aesthetics rather than on the functionality. Whitening is the most common cosmetic procedure that enhances how they look. This is also because there are already various products in the market that are available for anyone but it is better to have it done with a professional to make sure of the safety and also the quality.

Bonding and Veneers may be a bit the same due to them being procedures for adding enamel like structures on the crowns. Veneers are used to sculpt the crown to close gaps or reform chipped edges. Although this material does not react with whitening but they are ultra thin and made of customized porcelain material.

Dental Bridging is the process of attaching or installing a false teeth in between real ones or another set of false ones. This would fill in the gaps that are left by the missing tooth from extraction or any other reason. The dental restoration is a fixed procedure and the type and method would vary depending on the specialist. It is either an implant or an indirect restoration.

Another one is gum lifting where the gum line is resculpted to an optimum look to make it aligned and more symmetrical. Aside from the gums, the underlying bones may also be modified to achieve this. But of course, before having any of these procedures to be done, consult a dentist that has enough credentials, license, and accreditation, as well as for the clinic, hospital, or institute.
